Brace yourself

Dr Marcus Spry - Private DentistOn Friday I treated a lady with braces fitted in Germany where she had lived for a while. Basically she had missing upper teeth the lateral incisors to be exact (i.e. the second ones round from the mid line). These had been replaced with a bridge either side but the replacement teeth were very small and unconvincing, thus she had orthodontics to open the gaps up a bit and we went ahead in taking the old metal containing bridges off a mew impression taken and temporary bridges made.

The new bridges will be made using the Techceram Technique and be made all in porcelain no metal, by my friends Ian and Paul at Fine art ceramics Dentalab. I have every confidence that the new teeth will look and function like a dream..

It just shows that you are never too old for brace treatment and corrective aesthetic work.

L.A. confidential

Dr Marcus Spry - Private DentistI was treating a patient recently and I thought you might like to know about a technique for really 100% local anesthesia.

Most U.K. dentistry is done with local anesthetic that is by a small injection in the skin of the mouth near the tooth and the drug it contains temporally stops the nerve working usually for about 3 to 4 hours. Meantime painless dental work can be completed.

But one patient I was treating recently wouldn't go numb enough for some root canal work and I used a technique where I made a tiny hole in the side of the gum and flowed local anesthetic into the jaw.

Total satisfaction for both the patient and myself, as I really don't see hurting people as part of my job description. The technique is called staibident.

Worries, not at all

Dr Marcus Spry - Private DentistMy personal coach Peter Haddon introduced me to the idea that most of our worries will come to nothing. Earl Nightingale wrote about worries in categories thus:

1. Things that never happen: 40 percent. That is, 40 percent of the things you worry about will never occur anyway.
2. Things over and past that can't be changed by all the worry in the world: 30 percent.
3. Needless worries about our health: 12 percent.
4. Petty, miscellaneous worries: 10 percent.
5. Real, legitimate worries: 8 percent. Only 8 percent of your worries are worth concerning yourself about. Ninety-two percent are pure fog with no substance at all.
6. So don't spend to much time on worry about going to the dentist now a days its OK.

Tooth Whitening (also known as 'bleaching') is the most popular cosmetic dental treatment

We recommend white fillings instead of mercury silver fillings.

We recommend regular 6 month check-ups and cleaning.

Implants are the only truly long-term solution to tooth loss, they will never require root canal treatment and they will never decay.

We recommend regular 6 month check-ups and cleaning.
